Travelling in Thanet

The Thanet Loop bus service provides frequent buses linking Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the Westwood Cross shopping centre. See here for details. Travel costs may be seen here. There are many good beaches locally.

There is a frequent fast train service to London St Pancras International (75 minutes).

A Travelcard which allows a user to travel throughout London on buses, trains and trams currently costs £12 per day, starting after 9:30 on weekdays and any time at the weekends.

An Oyster card is a contactless card which you put money onto and then can pay much lower fares on buses and tubes. Credit and Debit cards with contactless capabililty will also work on London Transport and can be cheaper than the Oyster card.

If you like touring around by rail Brit Rail offers various tickets which can be an economical way to get around. An especially good deal is a Britrail London Plus Rail Pass which offers travel throughout South East England for a number of days which do not have to be consecutive. These passes must be bought before coming to the UK. Check out the map, the area covered is huge and includes Oxford, Cambridge, Stratford upon Avon and the South East Coast from Harwich to Weymouth.


London has 4 airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted  and Luton.

Getting to Ramsgate from the London airports – use coaches or trains to get to St Pancras International and get the fast train to Ramsgate. There is a shuttle service to Ramsgate from Heathrow and Gatwick airports – for details follow this link.
